#TalkStoryTalkPlace is a means for youth to engage with older adults to help preserve stories about places in their neighborhoods.
Utilizing a simple interview format, #TalkStoryTalkPlace aims to raise awareness about places in a way that strengthens inter-generational networks.
#TALKSTORYTALKPLACE is a tool for educators & storytellers seeking inter-generational community engagement and a meaningful way to dialogue about neighborhoods.
SUGGESTED INTERVIEW QUESTIONS:
What is your Name and age?
Where are you from and where do you live now?
Do you know a place in this neighborhood that you know very well?
What is the name of this place and where is it located?
What is your relationship to this place? Why is it significant to you? What makes it unique or special?
Can you describe what this place looks or looked like?
What is it/was it like to be at this place? What would you do there? Why would you go there?
Was there someone who would always be there? Who were they and what would they do there?
Is there a story that happened here that you would like to share?
If this place was no longer here, how would this neighborhood change?
What is your hope for this place now and what is your hope for this neighborhood?
HERE’S HOW IT WORKS
Pair one youth with one older adult
Use a smartphone with Audio or Video Recording capability
Find a quiet space to sit and talk for 20-min
Youth interview Older Adult for 10-min using smartphone audio or video
Older Adult interview Youth for 10-min using smartphone audio or video
Review your recording and take note of:
Interviewee name, age, where they are from, and where do they live now?
Interviewer name, age, where they are from, and where do they live now?
Name of place, address / intersection your story is about.
